Montauk Ebb and Flow" is a 40"x60" mixed media piece created by Greg Mills and Michael Vecchio of the Montauk Drift Company. We named it the ebb and flow for the ever changing tide. What Michael did to show this was raise the picture about 5 inches off of the driftwood panel to allow the driftwood to flow underneath the image. Together, we first spent over four weeks meticulously combing the shorelines of Montauk Point, Navy Beach, and Ditch Plains collecting, sorting, and treating all of the driftwood used for the project. The layered wall mount was then designed and hand built by Michael Vecchio, displaying the over 700 individual pieces of driftwood that we collected, alongside a floating aluminum print of the Montauk Lighthouse as photographed by Greg Mills (@greg.mills).

In total, the collection, design, and construction process required over 100 hours of labor before the photo could be mounted. Our goal for this piece was to create something that uniquely represented the beauty of Montauk at its most fundamental level by blending both the natural colors of locally reclaimed driftwood with an image that captures the ocean's brilliant interaction with landscape we all know and love.
